Research

Our research was conducted to advance our understanding of the needs of the Deep Tech community in Europe and specifically at our HEI partner institutions to lay a strong knowledge base to develop programmes to meet current and future international innovation ecosystem demands and close the commercialisation gap for Europe.

These synthesised reports and insights are the result of desk research and asset mapping of HEI partner regions, and interviews with deep Tech commercialisation experts in the Deep Tech community including entrepreneurs and educators. Regional and international round table discussions were undertaken with the wider Deep Tech community to achieve our objectives.

D2.1 European Deep Tech Commercialisation Trajectory Report

Discover the current state of Deep Tech commercialisation in Europe in our comprehensive research report. Despite a strong startup ecosystem, Europe still lags behind the U.S. and Asia in scaling up Deep Tech due to fragmented markets, limited funding, and a gap in commercial expertise.

Our report identifies three critical stages—Pre-incubation, Incubation, and Acceleration—each needing targeted support like mentorship, legal guidance, and funding. With Europe’s strengths in research and growing public initiatives like Horizon Europe and the European Innovation Council, we outline actionable steps to boost commercialisation and create stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government. These are crucial to unlock the full potential of Deep Tech to solve pressing societal challenges.
